Chaliye Pokhara:
Promoting Pokhara in India

Chaliye Pokhara” (Let’s Go to Pokhara) Campaign is a strategic tourism initiative launched by the Hotel Association Pokhara (HAPN) in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to attract Indian tourists to Pokhara.

Objectives of the Campaign

The campaign is designed to:

– Position Pokhara as a premier travel destination for Indian visitors.

Leverage Pokhara’s proximity to North Indian cities to encourage cross-border tourism.

Offer tailored tourism packages catering to Indian travelers.

Strengthen Nepal-India tourism cooperation through promotional events and engagements.

Key Activities

The campaign has been actively promoted in major Indian cities, including Patna, Banaras, and Lucknow, through various initiatives such as:

Press meets and media briefings to highlight Pokhara’s attractions.

Business-to-business (B2B) meetings between Indian and Nepali tourism operators.

Audio-visual presentations showcasing Pokhara’s scenic beauty and adventure opportunities.

Distribution of promotional materials to encourage Indian travelers to visit Pokhara.

Impact on Tourism

The campaign has significantly increased Indian tourist arrivals in Pokhara, particularly among self-drive tourists from cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, and Varanasi. Many Indian travelers now prefer driving to Pokhara, making it a convenient and accessible getaway destination.

Indian tourists are drawn to Pokhara for several reasons, including:

– Cool climate – an ideal escape from the summer heat in North India.

Adventure tourism – activities such as paragliding, trekking, and boating on Phewa Lake.

Cultural and religious sites – including Bindhyabasini Temple and Tal Barahi Temple.

Affordable travel packages – making Pokhara an attractive option for families and groups.

The “Chaliye Pokhara” Campaign continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening cross-border tourism, ensuring that Pokhara remains a top travel destination for Indian visitors.
